TAMPA, Fla. – In almost every sense, the New York Yankees adopted the modern trap that needed baseball.
Their manager, Aaron Boone, is sometimes criticized for being too tightly closed against the team’s analytical game plan. Their batsmen can walk outside the clubhouse and enter the box against the Trajekt machine, which can simulate delivery of all major league pitchers.
At Yankee Stadium, the volume is cranked to 11. This is a gaming experience that may divide the ears of more stable customers, but may create an energetic atmosphere for younger customers.
But they didn’t really take part until Friday morning, in the 2020s, or even in the 21st century.
That’s when owner Hal Steinbrenner stepped into the front of a team meeting full of dozens of players, coaches and club personnel, putting the environment into growth.

Since 1976, Yankees players and field staff have not grown their beards, have not allowed their hair to level their shoulders, and in many cases they have not been able to celebrate their club’s contracts by changing their appearance.
It was a serious problem internally. Stein Brenner’s father George sought a military background to ensure the Yankees retain their classic appearance. It was a fierce battle in the 1970s counterculture vibe, endured through external mocking from fans, rivals and even “The Simpsons.”
However, the boss passed away in 2010, and Hal has since tried to honor his father’s wishes while gaining eternal comparisons with him. It is not at all surprising that the policy lived 15 years after George’s death.
But there’s a gap between expanding the sepia tone brand, ensuring players don’t miss out, and ensuring that your boss doesn’t burn their faces to keep his boss happy. , there is a fine line between refined and shrinkage.
On Monday, Steinbrenner sat with the Yankees of all the stripes and service hours. Most notably, what he described as the most influential leader.
By Friday, he decided to bring the Yankees to modernity.
“The policies that were in place are outdated and somewhat irrational given how important it is to that generation and standards of today’s world,” Steinbrenner was named after his father at a press conference Friday. At a press conference on the field, the defending American League champions opened the exhibition schedule.
“If we found out that the players who wanted to make us better and win us to win the championship didn’t want to be here, then we wouldn’t come here because of that policy. That would be very concerning.
“I’m pretty sure that’s a real concern.”
It was a charming morning confession from Steinbrenner. Steinbrenner indirectly cited JD Vance and members of Congress as influential people with full growth of facial hair. And he was well prepared to greet the questions that greet all of his important moves, or more often, the non-maube.
What do you think of George?
“Winning was the most important thing for my dad,” Steinbrenner says. “If someone comes to him and tells him that this could affect us getting the players we want, then what we want is to do is All we need to do is put ourselves in the best position. Our chance? I don’t know.
“I think he’s more inclined to the changes I’ve made than people think, because it was about winning.”
Steinbrenner certainly vents a buttoned boomer on his presser, and he’s talking to young people both inside and outside the organization, hey, people want to express the atmosphere freely with their own looks. Ta. (He has stopped wondering about this rock and roll music kids listening loudly recently, but you get the idea).
This notion that some of the Yankees actually liked the policy was almost equally appealing. Cole and Judge are certainly old fashioned types, and despite Cole shaved his whiskers when he came from the Houston Astros after the 2019 season, he appreciated the rules and some of them (Bosabong hair). I’m happy that the ban on such things will be banned. It remains.
“Shaving can be a little more mediocre and sometimes uncomfortable throughout the year,” Cole says. “But I’ve been here every year and we all generally prefer the idea that we look good, and these aspects don’t go away.
“But a little bit of individual freedom in terms of being a little more comfortable is a great balance.”
And exactly what is the definition of “good care whiskers” as the new policy says? Club president Brian Cashman tried to help.
“The only information provided by cash is not trying to make it look like the ‘duck dynasty’. There is no opposition to the duck dynasty – they are always crushing the forest. ”
Both Cole and catcher Austin Wells noted the enormousness of the decision given the all-star list of players who had to succumb to the razor and clipper. Beloved Yankee Don Mattingly was fined and benched for his Indiana Heartland Bollette, a sequence that was oc-laughed in an episode of The Simpsons.
New Hall of Fame CC Sabathia, Johnny Damon, Carlos Rodon, Jason Gianbi and Newcloser Devin Williams – they all felt burned.
Now, for both Cashman and manager Aaron Boone, it’s not that much to worry about getting a man, and that has to tell him.
“There have been so many changes in the game,” says Cashman. “This is a bit of an evolution, and a nudge on our side to make adjustments. Whether it’s an amateur scout in a room with a possible (high) draft prospect, “Well, me “I don’t want to be drafted by you because of that policy.” Or I brought the CC here, but was hesitant due to the facial hair situation.
“I actually had a discussion about a non-roster invitation this spring with someone whose agent said, ‘I can’t decide if he wants to shave or not.’ ”
It’s not his problem, it’s already.
“We want to separate ourselves from others and make us special. But that’s time,” says Cashman. “It’s not an easy decision. It’s not an easy decision for Hal Steinbrenner to make. We’re like a giant naval battle cruiser. It takes a long time for them to turn.
“The changes in history and tradition are slow, so this is a baby step that I think is appropriate.”
Boone said: I think that’s part of the consideration. I don’t want to miss the players. If you miss one player for that, that’s too much.
“Nobody who we want to be here wants it to appear at all.”
The Yankees have come close to their first championship since last year in 2009, losing a five-game World Series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. They are retooled and should prefer to be repeated as winners of the American League pennant.
The 2025 World Series Championship is somewhat appropriate. No, sick stubbles don’t make a difference in October.
But Dogpiles, who can freely (almost) freely (just) see the way they want, would probably be a proper welcome to modern times, due to a franchise that is a bit full of its past.
Friday was an important point of the trip. It’s time.
