The company is adding a video tab to the bottom bar of the app to give US users instant access to video content on the platform.
“Our new immersive video home is opening to US users today,” the company said in a post on Sunday.
X users can already scroll through short videos by tapping on the video on the timeline and scrolling up. This new tab for videos is a section dedicated to these videos. Additionally, this isn’t the first time the company has tried to establish a new home for video.
The app’s reverse engineer has previously previewed the media tab for videos, but this is the first time X has officially announced it.
Social networks have recently focused on video experiences. Last year, the company launched a standalone TV app that shows videos from a variety of organizations and creators.
As TikTok faces problems in the US, the social network is looking to capitalize on the uncertainty surrounding the ByteDance app in the US. Meta launched a video editing app called Edits to compete with ByteDance’s CapCut, and X rival Bluesky launched a custom feed for vertical videos.
