Waymo and Uber will begin offering Robotaxi vehicles in Atlanta and select customers who signed their waitlist earlier this year. The move precedes the launch of a company’s public Robotaxi this summer.
Customers selected for early access will be notified via the Uber app and via email. Those who choose Robotaxi Rides are encouraged to provide feedback during and after the ride. As an additional incentive, riders will receive $10 worth of Uber credits after their first Waymo ride.
Atlanta is the second city to receive “Uber’s Waymo” service. The company launched a service in Austin this spring to match Riders and Waymo via the Uber app.
Last September, Uber and Waymo announced plans to offer Robotaxi services in Austin and Atlanta in early 2025 as part of their expansion partnership. Under the partnership, only Uber users can welcome Waymo’s autonomous Jaguar I-Pace vehicle fleet.
Like all the other cities Waymo launched, Atlanta’s service areas, a list that includes Los Angeles, Phoenix and San Francisco, grows over time. Waymo and Uber have agreed to first offer Robotaxi rides in Atlanta’s 65-square-mile area, including downtown, Buckhead and Capitolview neighborhoods.
The “Waymo on Uber” service divides the responsibility for owning and operating a fleet of driverless vehicles. Uber handles charging, maintenance and cleaning of autonomous vehicles, manages access to Robotaxis via the app, and Waymo monitors independent operations, including Tech and Rider Assistance.
