Uber announced yet another self-driving vehicle partnership on Friday as it leverages its dominant ride and delivery position while relying on its partners to provide self-driving technology within the company. Today, the lucky startup is Momenta, a Chinese autonomous driving company.
The partnership takes place the day after Uber adds AN Arbor-based Maymobility to its AV collaborator roster. This includes Volkswagen, Waymo, Wave, Werid, and more.
Uber said it will add Momema’s Robotaxis to an app that starts in Europe in early 2026 and is equipped with safety operators.
Momenta CEO Xudong Cao said the partnership will “complete the critical ecosystem needed to expand autonomous driving globally.”
While many deals at the end of Uber range in trucking and delivery, you might expect the company to face potential competition with Tesla, which plans to launch its first Robotaxi service in Austin this summer. Tesla CEO Elon Musk has promised that all Tesla vehicles will one day be transformed into fully self-driving cars used for riding.
Uber once had its own self-driving unit, but in 2020 it sold its division to Aurora Innovation.
