TikTok CEO Shou Zi Chew responded to Donald Trump’s comments regarding Friday’s Supreme Court decision banning the app in the United States.
In a video posted to TikTok, Chu said, “On behalf of everyone at TikTok and our users across the United States, we want to thank President Trump for working with us to find a solution to keep TikTok available in the United States. I would like to thank you for your dedication.” . This is a strong stance against the First Amendment and arbitrary censorship. ”
TikTok appears to be relying on President Trump’s support to maintain the Chinese-owned platform’s legitimacy in the United States. President Trump clearly wants everyone to see him as the savior of TikTok, posting on Truth Social that he is in talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping to find a way to save the platform.
“Support from a president who truly understands our platform and has used TikTok to express his thoughts and perspectives, connect with the world, and generate over 60 billion views of his content in the process. I am grateful and happy to have this opportunity,” Chu continued. “Rest assured, we are committed to ensuring our platform thrives. There will be more to come.”
Earlier Friday, the Supreme Court ruled that TikTok’s ban applies. At this point, it’s unclear whether TikTok will disable the app for users in the U.S. this Sunday, or whether it will wait to see if the Trump administration can negotiate a solution.
In the meantime, here are some TikTok alternatives you can check out.
