“Career Criminals” who hus men and often drug them before stealing them, a Louisiana woman indicted in connection with the death of a Kansas City sports journalist who police covered Super Bowl 59. It’s how to explain it.
Telemundo Kansas City anchor and sports reporter Adan Manzano, 27, died Wednesday morning in a room at the Comfort Suites hotel near New Orleans. He was involved in Spanish networks and TICO sports assignments.
He is survived by a young girl. His wife, Ashley Leanne Boyd Manzano, died in a car accident on April 11, 2024 in Topeka, Kansas.
Police arrested 48-year-old Danette Colbert of Slidell, Louisiana on Thursday night in New Orleans after watching a video of investigators leaving their hotel room in Manzano early Wednesday morning, according to Police Chief Kenner. Keith Conley said at a press conference Friday.

How police linked suspects to the case
Investigators found Manzano’s cell phone and credit card while searching for Colbert’s home, Conley said. The credit cards were fraudulently used “in several stores in the New Orleans area,” Conley said in a press release.
Colbert, held at the Jefferson Parish Correctional Center in Gretna, Louisiana, has been charged with property crimes, including fraud and theft-related offences, but “the investigation is still ongoing,” Conley said.
Police are waiting for the coroner’s report, but that could take three to four weeks, Kenner Police Department Deputy Director Mark McCormick told USA Today on Saturday.
Toxicology reports will be important as Colbert was arrested in the past for allegedly dragging men and stealing them. Colbert’s criminal history includes “two examples of her taking drugs on the victim and stealing an access device and a card,” Conley said.
Crimes for access devices include illegal use of credit and debit cards and unauthorized use of hotel room keys.
“She plays a confident game. She’s definitely a career criminal,” Conley said. “All of her crimes are against people, including fraudulent access devices (such as illegal use of credit or debit cards), simple robbery, theft, or of its nature.”

The suspect had previously been charged in Las Vegas
Conley was arrested in July 2022, charged with grand larceny of more than $25,000 and administered the drug to support the felony committee, the Las Vegas Review Journal reported at the time. Police say two women he met at the bar at the Encore hotel claimed he had taken medicine after he invited him to his room.
In the July 9, 2022 incident, the man told police that the woman forced a drink in her throat and felt dizzy. He let the woman leave, but when he woke up the next day he didn’t have a watch worth $60,000, credit card, or $1,500 casino chips. He told police his credit card showed some purchases he didn’t make. Seen on surveillance video, Colbert told police he went to the man’s room to dance for him in exchange for a tip.
Colbert was arrested and charged in a similar case in the January 17th theft in Winn Las Vegas on January 17th, according to the Journal of Review. A man wakes up in his hotel room with a bloody nose and realizes he is missing $50,000 in cash. He also said he lost $30,000 worth of Rolex watches, his cell phone, $11,000 Rolex watches with casino chips and luggage.
Daniel Lipman, the lawyer representing Colbert, was later rejected because the victim didn’t want to testify in court. He did not comment on the new allegations.
In both cases, the bill was removed in October 2022, but it was unclear why, Times-Picayune reported on Friday.
Police: The suspect has “substantial records and rap sheets.”
Long before being charged in Las Vegas, Colbert became a familiar name to police in New Orleans, and “has a fair record and rap sheet for confidence games, access device fraud and robbery plans,” Conley said Friday. He spoke to.
“She is frequently stopped in French districts and is known for these fraud schemes,” he said.
Colbert pleaded guilty to accessing device fraud in December 2019 after being arrested in May 2018, including a stolen credit card. The suspect bought a gift card and received cashback on a total purchase of around $3,000, and spent about $3,000 at Sam’s Club, authorities told The Times-Picayune.
Court records show that the district judge sentenced Colbert to five years in prison, the highest possible, but at the highest possible, he suspended the sentence and ordered five years of aggressive probation, and the outlet said. reported.
Previously, Colbert was arrested in December 2016 and accused of stealing a credit card from a man he met on Bourbon Street, Times Pikayun reported at the time. She had used a man’s credit card to purchase a gift card worth around $1,500, a New Orleans news outlet reported.
In May 2016, Colbert was guilty of theft between $500 and $1,499 and theft of items under $750. She was also sentenced to five years of suspension after pleading guilty to bank fraud and second-degree battery charges, Times Pikaune reported.
The incident stems from a November 2014 incident, where police say Colbert was arrested for theft after leaving his New Orleans hotel with watch, credit cards and cash from a man he met on Bourbon Street. . Police said Colbert and three women attacked the store manager and notified police after Colbert saw wanted poster police being dumped in the incident, Times Pikaune reported.
Colbert admitted to theft of two counts in the incident in May 2015, Picayune reported. According to Times Picayune, Colbert was sentenced to five years of active probation and three years of inactive probation.
Prior to that arrest, Colbert was arrested in October 2012 for a simple robbery and pleaded guilty to possessing the stolen one year later. Her probation ended in April 2014, the outlet reported.
Major events such as the Super Bowl attract “travel criminals” for targets, Conley said.
“This makes it clear that there are people out there who prey on others, bring confidence to them and sacrifice them,” he said. “That’s something people really need to know.”
