The government-run website Covid.gov was used to host information about Covid-19 vaccines, testing and treatments. Currently, under President Trump’s scope, the page is redirected to the White House website that supports an unproven theory that Covid-19 was born in Chinese labs.
The theory that has been opposed by many virologists was supported last year in a House Republican report that determined the pandemic began with a leak in China. House Democrats released the rebuttal at the time, saying the probe could not determine the true origin of Covid.
Covidtests.gov website. If people were able to order a free coronavirus test before, they will also be redirected to this new page.
The new White House website also contains medical disinformation about treatment for the virus, falsely claiming that social distancing, mask orders and lockdowns are ineffective in reducing the spread of Covid-19. However, hundreds of studies have shown that these precautions in fact reduce the transmission of respiratory infections like Covid-19.
For months after Trump welcomed his role as President of the United States, many government websites have been compiled to reflect his administration’s agenda. With the help of Elon Musk’s Doge, the government tried to remove hundreds of diversity-related words from government documents. These include words like “black,” “disability,” “diversity,” “gender,” “racism,” and “female.” The government has also removed scientifically proven climate change references from environmental websites.
