The audio streaming giant denies allegations of security breach.
Audio streaming giant Spotify appears to be experiencing a wide range of technical issues affecting thousands of customers around the world.
As of around 10:45am on the US East Coast (14:45 GMT) on Wednesday, the down detectors showed more than 20,000 outage reports on Spotify Worldwide. This is a decline from today, when outages peaked at over 48,000.
Users said it was difficult to load both the app and website, play and listen to songs, and use its search function. But as the day progressed, the confusion seemed to diminish.
In addition to loading and playback issues, Spotify downtime updates also note that it is difficult for some users to access the platform’s support site.
“We know some issues now and are checking them out!” Spotify wrote to X on Wednesday morning. SpotifyCares, the company’s support account, later added that “the right team is working on it and working on fixes.”
Spotify didn’t immediately provide any information about the possibility that it was causing the outage, but pointed out in a follow-up post that “reporting this is a security hack is false.”
Spotify currently boasts over 675 million users worldwide. This includes 263 million subscribers in more than 180 markets.
