Reddit Answers, Platform’s conversational AI search tool, gets an upgrade through integration with Google Gemini. This has been more than a year since Reddit expanded its partnership with Google Cloud to access the Vertex AI platform and build AI agents.
Google and Reddit announced an update Wednesday, explaining that by incorporating Gemini into Vertex AI, it will help improve search relevance and provide users with simple answers.
Reddit Answers has been in beta since December 2024, allowing users to ask questions and receive curated summary of related comments and existing posts.
This feature is designed to keep users on the platform rather than searching for threads on Google. By integrating Gemini, Reddit may compete better with Openai and other generative AI companies that use data to train chatbots.
Users have had a variety of opinions about this feature, but they liken it to the “Knockoff version of Grok AI,” an X tool known to generate false information in the past. Others believe it will help to provide a brief overview of generalized advice and insights from fellow users. For example, “How to clean rusty cast iron.”
Reddit answers are currently available in English on US web and iOS devices
