Reddit CEO Steve Huffman said the online forum site was upgraded in 2025, designed to allow users to navigate social networks and answer “subjective hard, (and) interesting questions.” He said he plans to launch a search experience.
The company plans to achieve this by integrating Reddit Answers. This is a feature that allows visitors to ask questions and receive a curated summary of relevant answers and threads from across the platform into existing searches.
“In conversations (on Reddit) we’ve been leaving this absolute, very large information for 20 years, so we’re starting to unlock it with answers,” Huffman said on Wednesday in Reddit’s fourth quarter 2024. He spoke on a revenue call. “I’ll keep repeating this product.”
Reddit CFO Drew Vollero added that during the call they are recruiting engineers to build a “small search team” focused on these features.
Reddit embraces AI with the goal of growth. Last year, the platform brought AI-powered translations to dozens of new territories. Reddit has begun testing its AI-powered search results page. It summarises and recommends content across a variety of Reddit communities.
Investors were disappointed with Reddit’s fiscal quarter results, which were affected in part by changes to Google’s search algorithms. Reddit’s daily active unique users increased 39% year-on-year to 101.7 million users, lacking a unique estimate of 103.1 million.
Huffman suggested that Reddit search be part of the platform onboarding process, driving growth, retention and ultimately revenue.
“We help users search directly on Reddit, refine queries on Reddit, and eventually come directly to Reddit for those types of queries, and search for something like onboarding over time. I think we can integrate it. Things,” he said. “It’s amazing to get that signal…and of course it has incredible monetization potential.”
