The new OpenAI image generator with the GPT-4O model is now available to all users, CEO Sam Altman said in a post from X. Previously, this feature could only be paid to ChatGPT users.
It’s not clear how many images a Free Tier user can generate, but Altman last week mentioned the limit for three images per day.
Openai’s image generation tool came out shortly after its launch, with Altman saying it is in very high demand and its GPU is “melting”. The tool quickly gained infamous for being used to convert photos into styles from Japanese animation company Studio Ghibli, raising concerns about copyright and training data given the similarities in style.
Some people used it to generate fake receipts, such as restaurant bills. An Openai spokesperson told TechCrunch that all of these images had Metadata, indicating that ChatGpt produced them, indicating that the company would “take action” if the images violated the company’s guidelines.
Meanwhile, Openai said Monday it raised $40 billion in funding led by SoftBank at a $300 billion valuation. The company also said that ChATGPT hit 5 million active users per week and 700 million monthly active users.
