Openai is still struggling to overcome the capabilities problems posed by the viral image generation feature that was launched last week.
On Monday, Openai disabled video generation for new users of Sora, the company’s suite of generative AI media tools.
“We are currently temporarily disabling SORA video generation for new accounts due to high traffic,” reads a note on one of the company’s support pages. “Even if you’ve never logged in to Sora before, you can still generate images with Sora.”
Due to the impressive ability to recreate Studio Ghibli’s hand-drawn animation-like style, Openai’s new image generation feature has arrived with many fanfare and controversy. Over the weekend, Openai CEO Sam Altman said in a post by X that the company “we couldn’t catch up” since launching, and staff will work late into the night and “maintain service” throughout the weekend.
Updated 10:08am Pacific: An earlier version of this article incorrectly stated that Openai disabled image generation for certain SORA users rather than video generation. I regret the error.
