Openai offers a new “lightweight” version of the ChatGpt Deep Research Tool. This was announced on Thursday to ChatGpt Plus, teams and professional users, looking for the web to compile research reports on topics.
Openai said the new Lightweight Deep Research, which will reach ChatGpt users for free from today, is powered by Openai’s O4-Mini model version. Though it’s not as capable as “complete” deep research, Openai claims that companies can raise usage restrictions because it’s cheaper to provide services.
“Responses usually shorten while maintaining the expected depth and quality,” Openai said in a series of X’s posts.
The lightweight version of Deep Research comes with the Openai O4-Mini version, offering the service while being as smart as Deep Search already knows and loves.

There were many deep research tools recently launched across chatbots, including Google’s Gemini, Microsoft’s Copilot, and Xai’s Grok. Driven them is to infer AI models that have the ability to think through problems and fact-check themselves. This is probably important for conducting detailed research on subjects.
ChatGpt’s lightweight, deep research will come next week to companies and education users at the same usage level as team users, Openai says.
