According to Wired, Nintendo of America’s Doug Bowser said the company did not consider possible tariffs from the US when determining pricing for the Nintendo Switch 2 console.
Nintendo announced the highly anticipated Switch 2 last week, with the console being released on June 5th at a price of $450. But later that day, President Donald Trump announced that the US would impose swept tariffs on goods imported into the country, causing disruption to the global economy.
US pre-orders for the Switch 2 were supposed to start on April 9th, but US consumers will not be able to pre-order the console until Nintendo knows how to deal with tariffs. Many of the Switch 2 parts are assembled and manufactured in China, Vietnam and Cambodia. Trump’s new plan will result in China being subject to 54% tariffs, while Cambodia and Vietnam will be subject to 49% and 46% tariffs, respectively.
According to Bowser, Nintendo was already trying to diversify the production locations of its products, and was attempting to move most of its production from China to other countries.
