Nintendo is delaying pre-orders for the newly announced Switch 2 in the US due to concerns over President Donald Trump’s tariffs. Pre-orders will no longer start on April 9th.
“Pre-orders for the Nintendo Switch 2 in the US will not begin on April 9, 2025 to assess the potential impact of tariffs and evolving market conditions,” a spokesperson for the company said in a statement to TechCrunch. “Nintendo will update the timing at a later date. The start date for June 5th, 2025 has not been changed.”
Nintendo plans to release the console for $450 on June 5th.
The company announced the Nintendo Switch 2 on Tuesday. This will be the first new console since the Nintendo Switch was introduced in 2017. The console can be purchased on its own or uses a bundle that includes the new Switch 2 game, Mario Kart World.
The launch came on the same day Trump announced swept tariffs that are expected to hit the tech industry. Trump has announced about 30% tariffs in both China and Taiwan.
