Given the iOS 26 and Macos Tahoe updates, it’s no wonder the iPads 26 is getting their own makeover. However, Apple calls the update “the biggest iPados release ever,” but I don’t think it’s just PR-Speak.
The iPados 26 update includes Liquid Glass Design Refresh, a new window system, Apple Intelligence features, improved file management with previews, and audio/video recording for authors. Overall, the iPad 26 makes the iPad feel like a blend between an iPhone and a Mac, as opposed to one huge iPhone.
Those who use iPads for work or school may feel at ease to hear that the iPad will eventually get their own version of folders, preview apps, and a more intuitive window display, making the iPad as easy to use as a Mac. Previews make it easier to edit and mark up PDFs, but the Files app now allows users to drag any folder into the dock or open a specific type of file with the default app.
The new window control allows you to view all your open windows at once and intuitively tile to help multitasking. These window controls are also compatible with Stage Manager, allowing users to organize windows into specific stages and work on multiple screens.
Additionally, the iPados 26 is enhanced by Apple Intelligence features. This includes live translations on phone, FaceTime and messages. This allows you to continue the conversation with an automatically generated translation while listening to other people’s voices.
iPados updates include a number of creator-friendly features. Now your iPad can perform computationally intensive tasks, such as exporting final cut pro videos in the background of other tasks.
When it comes to audio and video recording, the iPad now allows you to choose custom audio and video inputs for a variety of apps and websites. You can also use the audio separation feature to get a clear sound. Apple claims that using the AirPods 4 or AirPods Pro 2 will give you “studio quality” recordings.
In particular, Podcasters are interested in local capture features. The video conferencing app allows users to create and share audio and video recordings using audio echo cancellation for other participants. If this feature allows you to properly capture and stitch audio and video files from other users, your iPad could become a Riverside Killer.
