Grocery prices have risen for most of the last five years as supply chain bottlenecks, inucrenes and excess profit gains here in the US are putting a strain on consumer wallets.
Trump made a big move on food prices in 2024, and promised that he would cut costs if he was elected. But egg prices — frequent stand-ups for inflation during the campaign — have continued to rise amid the avian flu outbreak, and Trump admitted that lowering prices in December would be “hard.”
Follow the price trends using the chart below. NBC News monitors the average prices of eggs, chicken, bread, ground beef and other common groceries, as well as how much the prices have changed since December 2023.
Grocery price data provided by global marketing research firm NIQ is a real checkout paid nationwide at grocery stores, drug stores, mass merchandisers, selected dollar stores, selected warehouse clubs, and military committee members. Collected from the price.
The Bureau of Labor Statistics’ monthly consumer price index uses human data collectors and includes other food categories, and is another resource for average price data.
