President Donald Trump orders 100% tariffs on imported films and films made outside the United States.
In recent years, California, home to the American film industry, has skated to become the sixth preferred place to film and produce films.
Hollywood producers have moved to cities in Canada, the UK, Central Europe and New Zealand, and are tempted by the various financial benefits offered.
President Donald Trump wants to reverse this trend, saying he wants to “make a film in America.”
And he does so with a stick.
Trump ordered 100% tariffs on imported films and films made outside the US.
The move has disrupted the film industry in Hollywood and in Europe.
So how are customs duties implemented? Will films that are partially produced outside the US be punished?
And what about movies made for streaming platforms? And how do tariffs affect the film industry all over the world?
