Many of the best job opportunities for workers in 2025 will be in the healthcare industry due to factors such as high labor demand and wages, according to a new ranking from job search site Indeed.
According to Indeed, six of the top 25 occupations in 2025 are healthcare-related: veterinarians (#1), physicians (#3), clinical psychologists (#8), and radiology. Physician (No. 14), Registered Nurse (No. 18) and Director of Clinical Services (No. 22).
This is the highest proportion of the top occupations compared to any other sector, with healthcare dominating the list for the second year in a row.
Indeed’s analysis shows that the minimum salary is $75,000 per year, the number of postings on the site has increased by at least 20% over the past three years, and at least 5% of postings offer remote or hybrid roles. Occupations that met three criteria were investigated: Jobs are ranked based on their posting share on Indeed.
Julia Pollack, chief economist at ZipRecruiter, said the healthcare industry is seeing “extremely rapid” job growth.
“It’s just relentless,” Pollack said. “It’s very robust and consistent, and we don’t see any slowdowns.”
According to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, the U.S. economy added 902,000 health and social assistance jobs in 2024. That’s more than double its closest competitor, the government sector, which added 480,000 jobs.
According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, total employment of health care workers is “projected to grow at a much faster rate than the average rate” of all U.S. employment from 2023 to 2033.
Indeed’s career expert Jennifer Herrity said the abundance of job opportunities in this field is driven by a number of factors.
For example, the need for medical care in the United States is increasing due to an aging population. Retirement of health care workers has created a shortage in some roles. And healthcare jobs are at lower risk of being replaced by artificial intelligence than jobs in other industries, such as software developers or engineers, Herity said.
‘Surprisingly high’ salaries, high barriers to entry
Pollack said many health-care jobs are “surprisingly well-paying” due to strong labor demand.
For example, a radiologist has an average annual salary of about $385,000, making it the highest paying job on Indeed’s list. A typical physician earns $225,000 a year, the second-highest salary among physicians.
Indeed said of the 2025 list, “High salaries and a history of stability make healthcare a very attractive field, but the barriers to entry are high, especially for jobs such as radiology, which require at least 13 years of schooling.” We need education,” he wrote.
However, the next administration of President-elect Donald Trump could bring major changes to the medical field.
For example, President Trump and his Republican allies have sought to reduce federal spending on Medicaid and to raise funds for other policy priorities, such as tax cuts, that could reduce demand for health care, or reduce federal spending on affordable health care. There is a possibility that the subsidy under the Act will be allowed to expire.
Conversely, mass deportations could exacerbate labor shortages and lead to higher wages. According to the Immigration Policy Institute, immigrants accounted for 18% of health care workers in 2021.
Indeed says that job seekers who want to “benefit from a high-paying, fast-growing job without making a long-term investment in education” will probably look into jobs outside the medical field, such as sales representatives. He said he might be able to keep an eye on it. Many companies hiring salespeople may consider applicants with a high school diploma and the right skill set, the paper said. According to Indeed, the average annual salary for a sales representative is $182,000.
