Google is bringing the VEO 2 video-generated AI model to users paying for Gemini Advanced, the company’s premium AI plan.
As Google is trying to provide answers to Openai’s Sora Video Generation Platform, it will expand and competition in the space will be intense. Two weeks ago, one of the more formidable synthetic media companies, Runway released its fourth generation video generators, raising more than $300 million in new capital.
Starting Tuesday, Gemini Advanced subscribers can select VEO 2 from the model drop-down menu in Google’s Gemini app. Users can create 8-second video clips at 720p resolution with a 16:9 aspect ratio and upload these clips to Tiktok, YouTube and more via Gemini’s “Share” button. VEO 2nd generation videos can also be downloaded as MP4 files bypassing Google’s SynthID Tech.

There is a limit to the number of videos users can create each month, and the Google Workspace Business and Education plan is currently not supported, the company says.
Google integrates Whisk and Veo 2, an experimental feature from Google Labs. This will allow you to create a new image using the image as a prompt with Gemini. New animated features allow users to capture user-generated images and turn them into 8-second VEO 2-generation video. (Google Labs is Google’s platform for early stage AI products, gated behind the company’s $20/month Google One AI Premium subscription.)
Google’s VEO 2 application may seem pretty basic at the moment. However, Google Deepmind CEO Demis Hassabis recently said that the company will ultimately combine the Gemini AI model with VEO to improve its understanding of the former physical world.
In the meantime, many artists and creators are on the lookout for video generators like Veo 2, threatening to overturn the entire creative industry. A 2024 study commissioned by the Animation Guild, a union representing Hollywood animators and cartoonists, estimates that by 2026 more than 100,000 US-based film, television and animation jobs will be destroyed by AI.
