Google is expanding access to AI mode. This allows users to ask complex, multipart questions and follow-ups to dig deeper into topics directly within the search. Tech Giant has added more features to it, including the ability to pick up where you left off in a search.
Google launched AI mode in March as a way to take on popular services such as Perplexity AI and Openai’s ChatGPT search. The update announced today is designed to allow AI modes to compete better with the aforementioned services.
With this extension, Google is removing the AI mode waitlist. Currently, anyone in the US, at least 18, has access to the features if they are registered in the lab, a Google experimental group.
Google is testing the AI Mode tab in Google Search, which means it will be visible to a small percentage of people in the US, making AI Mode accessible outside the lab.
When it comes to new features, Google is allowing you to take a step beyond asking in-depth questions about locations and products. Now you can use AI mode to find new restaurants, what you need for your next trip, and more. Now you’ll see your visual location and product card in AI mode, and you can tap to get more details.

Looking at local spots such as restaurants and salons, you can quickly view information such as ratings, reviews, opening hours and more. For products, you can see details such as real-time pricing and promotions, images, shipping details, and local inventory.
For example, if you are looking for the best vintage shops with mid-century modern furniture, the AI mode highlights nearby stores, provides real-time details like busy, and you can get a call or instructions right away.

Or, if you’re planning a camping trip, try looking for something like “the best foldable camping chair that can fit under $100 in your backpack.” AI Mode provides product details and a breakdown of recommended products along with links to retailers.
Google also allows you to be taken from where you left off when using AI mode. This should be useful if you are working on a long-term project or task. On the desktop, you can click on the new left panel in AI mode to access past searches, see information already given, and ask follow-up questions.
