On Tuesday, Google announced the launch of the Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition). This is an updated version of the flagship Gemini 2.5 Pro AI model that the company claims on top of its widely used benchmarks.
Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition) is available via Gemini API and Google’s Vertex AI and AI Studio platforms, and is the same price as the Gemini 2.5 Pro model effectively replaces it. It is also available in Google’s Gemini chatbot app for web and mobile devices.
The model releases will be ahead of Google’s annual I/O Developer Conference (and therefore the “I/O Edition” designation), and Google is expected to announce tools and platforms powered by AI. The company is fiercely competing for Mindshare and Marketshare in Cutthroat AI races. Rivals like Openai and Xai are in the cusp of release models that are expected to perform very well.
According to Google, Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition) is a “significantly” improvement to the “significantly” improved features for coding and building interactive web apps. The model is also excellent at code editing, such as tasks such as code transformation, namely changing code to achieve a specific goal, the company says.

In a blog post, Google points out that Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition) is leading the WebDev Arena Leaderboard. Gemini 2.5 Pro Preview (I/O Edition) also has cutting-edge performance in video understanding, achieving a score of 84.8% on one popular benchmark, Videomme.
“For developers who are already using Gemini 2.5 Pro, this new version not only improves coding performance, but also addresses key developer feedback, such as reducing errors in function calls and improving trigger rates for function calls,” Google wrote in a blog post. “By default, this model provides aesthetic web development while still maintaining maneuverability.”
