There are several headlines claiming that TechCrunch is “withdrawing from Europe” and is shutting down reports on European startups. This is completely wrong. It misrepresents who we are, what we are, and more than anything — what we believe.
Recent changes at TechCrunch are not related to retreats. They are about reorganization and strengthening. This new chapter is supported by a partnership with our sister company Foundry. Foundry was placed under the same ownership to create technology media entities with an unparalleled global scope.
To be clear, Foundry is a powerhouse of international technology journalism. Its portfolio includes established and respected brands such as PCWorld, MacWorld, CIO, TechAdvisor, and has a vast network of journalists and deep expertise in regional and regional technological ecosystems across Europe and the world.
The suggestion that our new ownership believes international coverage is essential is clearly incorrect. The overall purpose of bringing together TechCrunch and Foundry is to create a more powerful, globally focused media platform.
Why do we fight for this beat?
Europe is where fintech regulations are being rewritten, with Quantum startups spinning out of Max Planrabo and climate technology pilots becoming the norm for other planets. In 2024 alone, European founders raised over 40 billion euros. Many of the unicorns we handled last year were born on this continent. If you’re concerned about the future of technology, you have to be here. And we are.
When integrating the strengths of both TechCrunch and Foundry, our commitment to founders, investors and readers in Europe and beyond is:
A radical being. We are on earth as the story looks different, from the time of the Tallinn demonstrations to the discovery of hydrogen hubs in the Basque Country. Relentless scrutiny. Hype dies in the sunlight. Continue to ask annoying questions and dig into the real story so that you don’t have to. A true global megaphone. Zagreb’s breakthrough deserves the same volume as one of Silicon Valley. By integrating TechCrunch and Foundry Networks, we amplify European innovations to millions of readers in over 190 countries, providing deeper insights and a truly unified global vision.
To the startup community: Keep tips, terminology and tantrums. Send them to [email protected] or send the encrypted channel to ping. We’re listening – bigger and wider than ever.
TechCrunch has not retreated from Europe. We’re doubled.
