On Wednesday, Epic Games announced its acquisition of Loci, an AI platform for autotagging 3D assets. The agreement not only helps detect potential intellectual property (IP) violations, but also helps creators with a labor-intensive process of tagging.
Understanding 3D content using computer vision models LOCI automatically tages 3D assets, making content easier to search, share and discover. New integrations can be extremely useful as the process can be extremely time-consuming due to the numerous assets creators often need to manage.
Loci’s technology not only addresses the challenges associated with manual tagging, but also helps identify possible IP breaches. Fortnite ran into problems before a large number of players brought elements of popular IPS such as Mario Kart and Shrek.
AI technology is integrated into the entire epic ecosystem, including Fortnite (UEFN)’s Unreal Editor (UEFN) and Fab, a marketplace for sale and purchases for Digital Assets.
The terms of transactions have not been disclosed.
