Prime Minister Albanese’s Labour Party had introduced new tax cuts prior to the general election by May 17th.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese says he plans to call a national election “immediately” as the deadline for the election of the new parliament on May 17 is approaching quickly.
“It’ll be May, I can guarantee it, and it’s called quite imminent,” Albanese told radio station Triple M on Thursday.
“I’m not calling it today, but I’ll call it right away. Australians want to continue doing it,” he said.
Albanese is scheduled to visit Canberra Governor Sam Mostin on Friday to call for election, according to separate reports from the Sydney Morning Herald and Australian newspapers.
Albanese must receive the approval of Mostin, who represents King Charles of the UK (Australian Head of State), the official head of Australia, to dissolve Parliament and declare a general election.
The Australian reported that the vote would take place on May 3, but Albanese’s office has not yet commented on the request.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese is expected to call the federal election tomorrow, finishing months of speculation about when the date will be. Several government sources confirmed that Albanese will visit Governor Sam Mostin’s residence in Canberra tomorrow morning.

Albanese’s Labour Party has introduced numerous measures to appease voters as they prepare to head to vote amid the high cost of living.
On Tuesday, the government announced two new tax cuts on a federal budget worth $17.1 billion ($10.7 billion). There, those earning average income will be subject to a tax cut of 268 Australian dollars ($170) for the fiscal year ending June 2027.
Although welcome, the cut is even more modest than the Australian dollar ($1,044) tax credit introduced this year.
Peter Dutton, the leader of the liberal national coalition of opposition, said that his party would cut the fuel excise tax in half and call it a “real, immediate relief” that could save a family of 750 Australian dollars ($473) a car in a year.
Dutton said if the prime minister is elected, the fuel excise tax will be reduced on his inauguration and will last for 12 months.
