Apple launched at the WWDC 2025 Conference Workout Buddy, an AI Workout Coach. The AI tool collects data from your current workout and fitness history (pace, miles log, activity ring closed, training load, etc.) and coaches through training in real time.
Combined with Apple Intelligence on iPhone, the training buddy relies on a speech model from text to transform encouragement into a fun, generative voice that sounds like a fitness trainer. In fact, Generative Voice is built using Fitness+ Trainers’ voice data. These are the people who lead their training with Apple’s Fitness+ App and Studio. Users can choose from multiple voices to find the right voice.
The Apple Watch and iPhone workout apps will also be updated, so once you start running it, it will start with a PEP talk. It also marks the moment, like when you hit four miles, if your last mile is the fastest ever, and what your average heart rate is. At the end of your workout, AI will provide an overview of your average pace, heart rate, and whether you have reached additional milestones, such as the first 10K run awards.
Training Buddy starts in English with the most popular training type.
As Apple repeats throughout WWDC, the training buddy is “personal and private.”
Additionally, Apple says it is offering a new layout for its Apple Watch workout app. It has features such as custom training and the race route “Tap Away.” Additionally, the app for music has new media features built into it. Users can let Apple Music select the best playlist based on their workouts and preferences. Users can also select suggested playlists or podcasts based on what they are listening to and what type of training they are training for.
