US lawmakers introduced Wednesday’s Ultrasonic Aviation Modernization Act to amend a 52-year ban on FAAs for supersonic flights through US soils. Bipartisan law introduced by Sen. Ted Budd (R-NC), Air Subcommittee Troy Neels (R-TX), and representative Shalis David (D-KS) allow supersonic travel.
The move, known as the “boom” bill, comes as the Colorado-based boom ultrasound is progressing in the development of next-generation supersonic aircraft. The booming XB-1 demo aircraft made history in January. This made history when it became the first personal development aircraft to break healthy barriers in the continent.
North Carolina is interested in passing the bill. Boom completed the Supersonic Airlines Factory in Greensboro about a year ago after receiving more than $100 million in state incentives in 2022. It has pledged to create more than 1,700 jobs by 2030. Texas is interested.
