Colombia’s President Gustavo Petro emphasizes that immigrants are not criminals and welcome the “free and dignified” exiles.
After a large -scale diplomatic column arrived in the capital, Bogota, the first flight carrying immigrants was expelled from the United States to Colombia.
The Colombian government confirmed that two airplanes carrying immigrants had landed on Tuesday. A total of 201 people immigrants (110 from California and 90 from Texas) participated.
The flight refused to fly a U.S. military plane on weekends, claiming that passengers should not be treated as criminals, marking the sudden face of Colombia.
Several flights to Latin America are said to have been handcuffing immigrants by hand.
“The happiness of our fellow citizens and the guarantee of their rights are the priority of the Colombian government,” said Colombian Foreign Affairs on Tuesday’s social media.
Spats began on Sunday and rejected Colombia Gustabopetro to approve the two foreign expulsions and offended his counterparty President Donald Trump.
The Trump administration has paused visa issuance at the Bogota Embassy in Bogota, and has responded by imposing a ban on officials in charge of deportation.
Since returning to the White House on January 20, Trump, which gave the crackdown on migration as a top priority, threatened to impose 25 % of Colombian products. He stated that if Colombia stuck in his posture, the number would increase to 50 % a week.
Bogota initially had a rebellious tone, saying that it would impose the tariff on the United States itself.
However, both sides signed a contract to solve the problem late on Sunday, and US authorities welcomed them as victory.
At the beginning of this week, Columbia’s Foreign Minister Lewis Gilbert Murrillo said that it would resume his country to accept the exiles in a “dignified situation” and use the presidential airplane to recover immigrants.
Bogota has allowed Washington to send Colombia citizens, who have been expelled abroad, to their home countries under the previous US administration. But the Peter’s government opposed how the Denner was transported under Trump.
Colombia on the left wing said on Sunday that his country never refused to accept immigrants.
“But I don’t want to accept the forced repatriation from the United States, do handcuffs, and do not require approval on military aircraft,” Petro wrote on social media posts. “We are not the colony.”
On Tuesday, he shared photos of the Colombian Air Force Airplane, one of the expulsion of abroad that landed in Colombia.
“They are Colombians. They are free and dignified, and they are in their hometown,” Petro wrote.
“Immigration is not a criminal. He is a person who wants to work, progress, and live a life.”
