To celebrate the 50th anniversary of “Saturday Night Live,” award-winning musician, author and filmmaker Questlove will release a three-hour documentary about the show’s musical past.
“Ladies & Gentlemen…50 Years of SNL Music” premieres Monday, January 27th at 8pm ET on NBC. The documentary features interviews with Mick Jagger, Jack White, Miley Cyrus, and Sharon Green, to name a few. It will be available to stream on Peacock the next day.
Amir Thompson, better known as Questlove, told Jimmy Fallon this week that he watched every episode of “SNL” over two and a half years as research for the documentary. For reference, there are over 900 episodes of “SNL.”
“Initially, I think we were trying to compile the show’s 50 best performances, but around 1987, the show had more iconic comedic moments that far surpassed musically legendary performances. “I realized something,” he told Thompson and Fallon.
