The storm brought frigid temperatures and a blanket of snow to the South in a rare event this week, but it also brought a lot of joy and some chaos to area dogs who have never played with white stuff. .
Kids and adults alike took advantage of Tuesday’s snow by having snowball fights and sledding down small hills equipped with boogie boards, suitcases, pool floats, and more. Their dogs were just as fun.
Videos and photos from southern states like Alabama, Florida, and Texas show our four-legged friends frolicking and rolling around in the snow.
Tio, a 2-year-old Plotthound-pitbull mix from Milton, Fla., couldn’t get enough of the snow, said owner Lisa Neressen Basage.
Savage, executive editor of the Pensacola News Journal, part of the USA Today Network, said: “When the snow got deep, he kept losing the squeaky ball and didn’t know what to do with it. He could hear it, but he wouldn’t see it.

“It’s adorable,” she added.
Savage said that every time she calls him, she actually has to ask him to let the dog inside because he runs off and hides in a tree.
“When he’s inside, he’s back there sitting at the patio door crying,” Savage said. “Who knew my baby would be a snow dog!”

Benny scared the snow at first
Some dogs experiencing snow for the first time in the South obviously didn’t know what to think when they first saw white ground and touched something frozen.
Benny, a 4-year-old German Shepherd Husky mix who was found on the streets of Houston on Christmas Day, seemed afraid of walking on snow at first. When he finally did, he turned around and went back under his covered pouch.
But by the end of the day, he had acquired his favorite bone in the snow and was frolicking as usual.
“It’s cute to see a husky-blooded dog look so hesitant about snow, but even more adorable when he finally gets his paws white,” says his dog’s mother, Trends Editor at USA Today said Amanda Myers. “Then we couldn’t get him in.”
