Last week, we launched a nationwide search for Valentine’s Day. A lot of people have asked for updates, so I thought I’d let you know what’s happened since then.
To catch you up, USA Today is playing cupid with me in just a few weeks in New York City to find one great gentleman for a “Sleep in Seattle”-inspired date.

One of my favorite parts of reviewing submissions is seeing the personalities of applicants and candidates in their videos. My young nieces, their moms, and I laughed the hopeful song of “Hello, My Baby” while making up the raw turkey dance. Other videos that caught my attention, like a participant opening up about the loss of his son. “I’m good, I’m kind, and most importantly, I think I’m a giver.”
Reality fans may be pleased to learn that dating show “Fboy Island” alumni applied. I haven’t watched it, but do you think I should check out some episodes for research?

I was also touched by the interest of my fellow journalists. I had the pleasure of chatting with my USA Today colleague Taylor Wilson (who has a great podcast voice) for an excerpt. I enjoyed talking with Abigail Adams of People Magazine.
I was surprised when Jeff Arch, author of “Sleepless in Seattle,” reached out to me on Instagram for this effort. It felt like a life-making moment because I respect movies so much!
Sure, when someone is doing something over the Internet, you may come across a troll. I woke up on Saturday morning to find two comments from the same account blasting me as “sad and desperate” and declaring that there was “zero hope.” I don’t believe anything that person wrote for a moment, and I don’t want to give them a stage. But I wanted to address the remark in case there are people out there who are questioning their worth because they are single.
