The update to Visionos 26, the operating system that bolsters Apple’s Mixed Reality Headset, is built on last year’s Apple Vision Pro Spatial Computer, which blends digital content with the physical world. At WWDC, Apple has announced a range of updates for both consumer and corporate customers, from new spatial widgets and content to more realistic personas.

Apple widgets provide useful, personalized information at a glance. With Visionos 26, it becomes spatial and integrated into space. You can customize the widget to your desired size, color, and depth and place it wherever you like.

The new widget includes clocks that can be decorated, weather adapted to the weather near you, music for quick access to music, and photos that turn into panoramas and “windows to another space.”

Add depth to 2D images

The Visionos Photos app update uses a new AI algorithm that leverages the depth of calculation to create multiple perspectives of 2D photos and realizes images. Apple says they will feel they can “leave straight away and look around.”

Spatial browsing in Safari can also make web browsing a more immersive experience. With certain supported articles, spatial browsing can hide distractions and reveal inline photos that say “comes alive as you scroll.” Developers can also add spatial browsing to their apps.

Talking Head

Last year, Apple released Persona, the AI avatar that represents your AI avatar on video calls on Vision Pro. In Visionos 26, Apple says that persona “represents you more realistically.”

The new Persona leverages “volume rendering and machine learning technology” to enhance everything from looking in a full-side profile view to providing more accurate hair, lashes and complexion. All personas are created on devices with a “second problem,” says Apple.

Visionos 26 allows you and your friends in another headset to watch movies and play spatial games together.

This feature is also available for enterprise clients, allowing users to collaborate. For example, 3D design software company Dassault Systèmes leverages the ability to visualize 3D designs directly and with remote colleagues in the 3DLIVE app.

Visionos 26 allows organizations to easily share a pool of common devices between team members, and securely store eye and hand data, vision prescriptions and accessibility settings so that users can quickly use shared team devices or Friend’s Vision Pro as Guest users.

Apple said it would add more APIs to allow Enterprises to create apps designed for VisionOS. There is a new “Only Your Eyes” mode that allows only those who are given access to view confidential materials.

Finally, Apple unveiled the Logitech Muse, built for the Vision Pro. This is a spatial accessory built for headsets, allowing you to accurately draw and collaborate in 3D.

Other Visionos 26 Updates

More Apple Intelligence features are now available in Apple Vision Pro. Visionos 26 supports new languages such as French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Spanish, and more, along with English support in Australia, Canada, India, Singapore and the UK

Users can also use their eyes to explore apps and websites. You can also unlock your iPhone while wearing an Apple Vision Pro, and Visionos supports calling from your iPhone, allowing you to accept calls from your Apple Vision Pro.
