Police say they arrested him after someone called police about “burning people.”
Police said the male suspect was taken into custody after an attack that injured several people in Boulder, Colorado, after the FBI director described it as a “targeted terrorist attack.”
While highlighting the information was “very preliminary,” Boulder Police Chief Stephen Redfern said Sunday that the man was arrested after calling for police dispatches of people with weapons that “burned people.”
Redfearn noted that he was taken to the hospital and said he is not in a position to identify the suspect yet. He said there have been multiple injuries among the victims, “from very serious to more minor.”
The Boulder attack occurred near a walk to remember the remaining Israeli prisoners of war in Gaza.
In a statement, FBI director Kash Patel described the incident as a “targeted terrorist attack” and said the agents were on the scene.
However, Redfearn said it’s too early to speculate on motives.
“We don’t call it a terrorist attack at this point,” he said.
“This was a beautiful Sunday afternoon in downtown Boulder on Pearl Street and this act was unacceptable. Think about the victims, their families and everyone involved in this tragedy.”
