Google announced at Google I/O 2025 that it will bring real-time voice translation to Google Meet. This feature leverages Google DeepMind’s large-scale language audio model to allow for natural, free conversations with someone in another language, Google says.

Meeting voice translation translates spoken words into the listener’s preferred language in real time. Voice, tone and expression are all preserved in the translation.

The high-tech giant says the new features have a variety of use cases. For example, English-speaking grandchildren can be used to speak to Spanish-speaking grandparents. Alternatively, it can be used by businesses operating in different regions to enable global colleagues to connect and chat in real time.

According to Google, voice translation delays are very low, allowing multiple people to chat together.

When the other person speaks, you will still faintly hear their original voice, the translated audio is overlaid on top.

Voice translations on Google Meet will begin rolling out to beta consumer AI subscribers starting Tuesday. This feature will first be available in English and Spanish, with more languages coming in over the coming weeks, including Italian, German and Portuguese.

Google says it is building a speech translation for Meet for Business as early testing is being conducted with Workspace customers this year.
