Tiktok unveils a new meditation feature that will help you get off the app and sleep

Tiktok is launching an in-app guided meditation exercise, social networks announced Thursday. The company began testing meditation exercises with selected teens earlier this year, and is now making the feature available to all users of the app.

The idea behind this feature is to encourage users to improve their sleep quality and lower the app during late-night endless scrolling sessions.

For teens under the age of 18, meditation is turned on by default. If your teens use the app after 10pm, their For Feed will be interrupted by a guided meditation exercise that encourages them to get caught up in the night. Meditation features a calm screen and soft music along with breathing exercises.

If teens ignore the message and choose to continue using the app, they will receive a second full-screen prompt to tweak them to fall asleep.

Tiktok has been introducing new teen safety features over the past few years in response to concerns about the impact of the app on the youngest users. The new meditation feature shows the company’s latest efforts to soothe lawmakers.

Adults interested in the meditation feature can turn it on by going to the app’s screen time setting page. From there, you will need to switch the “Sleep Time” function. You can choose the time you want to watch meditation exercises every night.

Tiktok also announced that it will donate $2.3 million in AD credits to 31 mental health organizations in 31 countries around the world as part of the Mental Health Education Fund.
