Meta’s X-rival Instagram threads have now grown to over 350 million active users. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced Wednesday during the company’s first quarter revenue call. This is an increase of 30 million users since the last quarter, and Meta reports that it has 320 million users on its thread.
The new figures represent an increase in growth as threads added 30 million in the first quarter of this year compared to 20 million in the fourth quarter of 2024. It is also worth noting that in the quarter, the thread added roughly the same users as one of its new competitors, Bluesky. The latter is a decentralized social app, with around 35 million users today.
Meanwhile, X is north of 600 million active users, according to a statement made Wednesday by CEO Linda Yaccarino.
Threads are still small compared to Meta’s other social apps (Facebook, Instagram, Messenger, WhatsApp), but its growth will help solidify its place in the microblog app ecosystem. In total, Meta says that over 3.4 billion people use at least one of Meta’s apps every day.
In a call Wednesday, Zuckerberg told investors the growth was indicating that the thread is “going well to become our next major social app.”
