These are important events on the 1,161st day of the Russian Ukrainian War.
This is where things stand on Wednesday, April 30th.
Fineting
A pack of Russian drones attacked Ukrainian cities in Kharkiv and Dnipro late Tuesday, killing at least one person and injuring at least 38 people, officials said. The Russian Ministry of Defense also said it had captured the Ukrainian village of Dorosivka in northeastern Kharkiv. Ukrainian Governor Smie said Russian forces are trying to open up buffer zones in the northeastern region, which is adjacent to Russia’s Kursk, but “has not been very successful.” Earlier on Tuesday, officials said that a Russian drone attack attacked overnight, killing a 12-year-old girl in the central Dnipropetrovsk region of Ukraine and injuring three people in the capital Kiev. Ukrainian officials also ordered the evacuation of seven villages in the Dnipropetrovsk region, once far from the front line, but now under threat due to Russian troops nearby. In Russia, he hit a car on a highway in the Ukrainian region, killing Ukraine, killing two people there. Earlier in the day, the Russian Ministry of Defense said it destroyed 91 Ukrainian drones overnight, of which 40 people defeated the Kursk region on the border. Ukrainian Prime Minister Dennis Schmichal said the country lost almost half of its domestic gas production during the winter due to Russian attacks, making up for the shortfalls caused by imports.
Diplomacy
Ukrainian President Voldy Mil Zelensky once again called on Russia, after Moscow declared a three-day ceasefire from May 8th to 10th, and a three-day ceasefire to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory of the Soviet Union and its allies in World War II. Zelensky also used military training as an excuse, saying that Russia was “preparing something” in Belarus this summer at a summit in Warsaw. Secretary of State Marco Rubio warned that the US would retreat as a mediator unless Russia and Ukraine made “specific proposals” to end the three-year war. A Rubio spokesman also said Washington is seeking a “complete and durable ceasefire and the end of the conflict.” The US says this week will be “critical” for peace efforts. The comments came because Russia rejected Ukraine’s proposal to extend the three-day ceasefire to 30 days, saying “it’s difficult to enter a long ceasefire” without first resolving many “questions”. At the Security Council, UN Head of Political Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo welcomed the fierce efforts to bring political parties into negotiations, saying it “provides a faint hope of hope for a ceasefire and progress towards a peaceful reconciliation.” France and the UK praised the US mediation while criticizing Russia. Moscow has rejected allegations that Russian troops targeted Ukrainian civilians, but Kiev said it could not accept peace at any cost. France has also denounced Russian military intelligence since 2021 by cyberattacking dozens of French organizations, including ministries, defense companies and think tanks, in an attempt to destabilize the country.
Politics
An investigation by the forbidden story of a European nonprofit found that Ukrainian journalist Victoria Rosztina, who died of a Russian prisoner, was tortured and removed organs before the body was returned. A Russian military court has been sentenced to 27 years in prison for attempting to kill an army pilot with poison and cake at a graduation party on Ukrainian orders. Ukraine is detaining defense personnel suspected of supplying the troops with false mortar shells. According to the Latvian prosecutor’s office, Latvia sentenced one of its citizens to six years in prison to fight for the Russian army in Ukraine.
