Meal-Kit Company Hellofresh has added 70 all-electric Ribian vans to its fleet since the automaker ended its monopoly with Amazon.
According to a blog post posted Wednesday, the 70 all-electric commercial vans represent almost a quarter of Hellofresh’s fleet, helping to save an estimated 20,000 gallons of petrol. Hellofresh said the transition to electricity has reduced CO2 emissions by 200 tons.
Libian, which produces and sells two van sizes, has wanted to diversify its customer base since it ended its exclusive agreement with Amazon in November 2023. However, the automaker did not officially open its commercial van fleet business to other companies until February 2025. Fleet customer Libian said in the past.
Libian has been found to conduct many tests with potential fleet customers. However, Hellofresh is the first to publicly declare his clients and incorporate the van into his fleet.
It still produces Amazon vans, just as Libian works to add more commercial customers. Libian began production of commercial vans in 2021, two years after Amazon announced it had ordered 100,000 vehicles as part of its efforts to mitigate the climate impact. Amazon had already invested heavily in Libian when it attacked the exclusive commercial van contract. Just seven months ago, the e-commerce giant led a $700 million investment round in Libian.
As of February, Amazon had 20,000 commercial vans produced by Libian in its fleet.
