With the ready to prepare for the transition from nonprofit to for-profit organizations, Openai says, “Openai’s philanthropy is convening a group of experts to help nonprofit organizations understand the most urgent and refractory issues facing today.
The group, which Openai says will incorporate “leaders and communities” feedback into health, science, education and public services, especially within Openai’s California home state, will be announced in April and will present insights to Openai’s board of directors within the next 90 days.
”
Openai was founded in 2015 as a non-profit research lab. However, as the experiment became increasingly capital-intensive, they created the current structure and took on external investments from VCS and companies, including Microsoft.
Openai is a for-profit organization that is managed by nonprofits today, with investors and employees having a “cap profit” share. However, as mentioned in the blog post, the company’s intention is to shift existing for-profits into traditional companies with ordinary stocks. Nonprofits will receive billions of dollars to give in to control.
Openai has a higher interest in completing the conversion quickly. If it doesn’t succeed by the end of the year, Softbank, at least one of its backers, was able to hold billions of dollars down with the pledged capital.
