Social networks are an alternative to X, built on open source technology, and have won a major victory in attracting prominent users to the platform. The company confirmed on Sunday that former President Barack Obama had joined the service.
Bluesky Ooo Rose Wang says that the accounts he posts as Obama have been confirmed!
In his first few posts on the platform, Obama celebrated the 15th anniversary of the Affordable Care Act (ACA), calling it a “reminder that change is possible when we fight for progress.”
The former president maintains a massive following on other social media platforms, including X and Facebook, with 130.6 million followers and 55 million followers, respectively.
However, Elon Musk’s X, formerly known as Twitter, lost many users to alternative social networks, including Bluesky, following the 2024 US election. Musk used X to campaign for President Trump, promoting political views lined up in the Maga. He also holds a prominent position in Trump’s circle thanks to his involvement with Doge (the government’s Ministry of Efficiency).
Not surprising, many left-leaning US users don’t want to join X. The Exodus from the platform led to greater growth in Bluesky users in the second half of 2024.
Other American politicians are already active in Blueskiing, including famous names such as Bernie Sanders, Elizabeth Warren, Al Green, Gavin Newsom and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez. Many other representatives, senators and governors are also part of the network.
