If you work for a small company and want to build a client portal or internal tools, it can be difficult to find the budget and resources to allocate developers to that small project. That’s why over 600,000 people, including project managers, HR employees and marketers, are trying out SOFTR’s No Code App Builder to build the tool itself.
The company originally started as an interface above AirTable, a popular enterprise database product, but SOFTR has announced several major product changes for 2025.
Customers are no longer restricted to Airtable for data storage. From user-friendly solutions such as Google Sheets and Concepts to developer-centric databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL and MariadB, you can now store and manipulate data using databases.
“As we grow, we’ve noticed that there are many companies that don’t have data anywhere. It’s all manual documents, pens and papers, emails, spreadsheets, etc. Mariam, co-founder and CEO. Hakobyan told TechCrunch.
“The other thing was that there were many different tools scattered (all) like some of the data was found in hubspot (Google Sheets, what is found in SQL databases). So, our goal is “It was to become the source of this one truth that allows users to build apps on top of scattered databases and carry out specific operational activities,” she added.
This new data-independent strategy is alongside the new app building experience. SOFTR provides a set of predefined blocks that can be dragged and dropped to build pages with lists, charts, forms, tables, and more. There are some new AI features that can also help you build your apps.
Given its focus on internal tools and portals, SOFTR has also built a permit system. For example, you could create two user groups so that clients can submit forms to view data, while employees can view and edit all data on all clients.
“In No Code Space, SOFTR is known as one of the easiest to learn. It usually appears as the top five tools to start a no code journey. It is very simple and easy to use. Because it’s easy. That’s intentional because we want everyone who isn’t a developer to build the tool,” says Hakobyan.
SOFTR will be available for use without a third-party datastore as we plan to add workflows and tables in the coming months. Some clients already have data in Google Sheets or Concepts accounts when they try out SOFTR, but these features can help you sign up for new signups.
“If you have the data, you can integrate with apps, great. If you want to create apps that aren’t on top of a database, there are solutions too,” says Hakobyan.
SOFTR employs a freemium strategy and relies primarily on word-of-mouth sales. Of the 600,000 sign-ups on the platform, the company currently has around 5,000 paid customers.
As a reminder, Softr raised a $13.5 million Series A round in 2022, with Firstmark Capital leading the investment. Since then, capital efficiency has been high. Because we don’t have a sales team yet. “We’re mostly profitable,” Hakobian said.
The company’s founder is based in Berlin, and its 45-person team spans 15 countries.
