Google Tuesday confirmed that the annual developer meeting is set for May 20-21, 2025. The event will take place in the Mountain View coastline amphitheater, in minutes, in response to traffic from Google HQ.
The two-day event combines both public and developer content. CEO Sundar Pichai started things on the morning of Tuesday, May 20th with a big keynote speech, then headed for a small breakout session for the developers’ army.
Last year’s show was overloaded with news focusing on Gemini, Google’s generative AI platform. There’s no reason to expect this year to be different. I/O has been focused on AI for the past few years, but thanks to competitors like Openai and Deepseek, the space continues to get hot.
For those who can’t wait for a few months, the I/O 2025 site has already been running with some developer content from the past few years, including Gemma, Google AI Studio, and Notebooklm.
The developer season concludes with Apple’s WWDC in June and will be fully empowered with NVIDIA’s GTC from March 17th to 21st. This year, Google is holding some tough competition in the form of Microsoft Build. This is set for May 19-22 in Seattle.
