Now that the Dallas Cowboys have hired a head coach, Deon Sanders is once again revealing something about how he feels about coaching in the NFL.
“I couldn’t coach the pro ball,” Sanders said on a weekly show at Tubi, “I got time today.”
Colorado head coach Sanders said this in a discussion with former Cowboys quarterback Troy Ayckman who appeared on a streamed show on Tuesday. Sanders was a Cowboys teammate in the 1990s and discussed the intensity of football practices with Aikman compared to what he perceived as less work ethic in pro football today. Ta.
“So I couldn’t say, I couldn’t coach… I know it’s cute, but I couldn’t coach professional ball., and as a soccer fan. , and I’m interested in the game,” Sanders said. “This game still offers Troy and me, so there’s no way to allow it to happen on my watch. That would be difficult.”
Candidate for Cowboys coaching discussed
Sanders was not officially interviewed to become the Cowboys head coach before hiring Brian Schottenheimer. However, he received a call from Cowboys owner Jerry Jones to discuss his previous position. Earlier in his appearance on the show, Ikeman said Cowboys legend Michael Irvin was not happy that Sanders didn’t get the job.

“I can’t believe I didn’t hear from you when everything that was happening is happening,” Sanders told Ikeman. “I was waiting for that call. I was waiting for my phone to see Troy Aikman.”
“You didn’t need a call from me,” Aikman said. “Hey, I was wondering how this all was going to unfold. You know, playmaker Michael Irvin is a cowboy apologeur and you’ve been given an official interview. He says he’s not employed and not employed.
“He’s not happy,” Sanders said. “Believe me.”
After Sanders said he couldn’t coach professional ball, show co-host Roxi Diaz confirmed his statement was clear.
“You just said you can’t coach professional balls,” she said. “You just said that here.”
“Yeah, I’m telling you,” Sanders said.
Aikman: Sanders would have been “a really good fit.”
This coincides with what Sanders said before when he said “60 minutes” in 2022. He generally says he prefers to coach younger players and coach people who really love football games. He also said he would only consider NFL work if he could coach his two youngest sons.
Diaz then asked Ikeman if the Cowboys were still perfect for Sanders.
“Jerry called him and got the playmaker’s idea about that call, so that makes a bit of sense, right?”
“That would make a lot of sense,” Aykman said.
Aikman, Irvin and Sanders played for the final Cowboys team in January 1996 to win the Super Bowl. Irvin pushed Sanders to become the Cowboys coach on a YouTube show in January, and Jones never got into the advantage of the opportunity. Ikeman said he also saw the possibility of Sanders.
“For Dallas, Dion would have been a really good fit because he was in charge of the room. His personality would have been people who knew he was in charge,” Ikeman said on the show. I said that. “And I think it’s important for any organization to know that the head coach is the guy who calls the shots and that he’s in charge.”
Sanders just finished his second season with Colorado and improved Buffalo to 9-4 in 2024 after finishing 4-8 in 2023.
