AMD says it plans to launch its next major data center GPU, the AMD Instinct MI350 series, sooner than it was first announced.
In the company’s fourth quarter, 2024 revenue call, AMD CEO Lisa Su said AMD plans to sample the MI350 in the quarter as a “lead customer” and “accelerate” freight produced in the “medium term” I did.
“So we previously said we thought we would release the (MI350) later (2025),” Su said. “And frankly, its withholding is better than we expected, and there is a very strong customer demand, so we actually pull that production lamp into mid-year this year, and we have a relative competition. It will improve your strength.”
AMD’s data center revenue pales in comparison to that of rival Nvidia. Nvidia regularly overturns billions of dollars per quarter. However, AMD is based on attracting and retaining customers last year, including Meta, Microsoft and IBM.
AMD Instinct Chips sales exceeded $5 billion in 2024, and the company expects its data center segment to increase by “double digits” in 2025, according to AMD. ($7.1 billion), the company reported Tuesday.
“I think there is a strong demand for AI calculations,” Su continued. “(MI350) is a catalyst for the data center GPU business. Over the next few years, the (data center) business has grown to tens of millions.”
Investors generally appeared to be happy with AMD’s fourth quarter results. The company’s shares rose 4.58% at the time of publication.
